Minor Injuries Units

Minor Injuries Units (MIU); are available at Abingdon, Henley and Wallingford.  They can treat conditions which typically include sprains and strains, suspected broken limbs, minor head injuries, cuts that need stitches, minor scalds and burns and emergency contraception.

These units treat injuries but are unable to treat minor illnesses.

For minor illnesses, please make an appointment with your GP or the Out-of-Hours service on 111 between 18:30 and 08:00 or at weekends/bank holidays.

Abingdon Hospital Minor Injuries Unit

Opening Hours:  7 days 10:00 – 22:30

Able to treat cuts, bumps, bruises, burns, sprains, strains, scalds, stings, allergic reactions, minor head injuries, minor road traffic accidents and possible simple fractures.

X-ray service is usually available between 10:00 and 17:30 every day but is only available after MIU assessment.  It is advisable to phone to check if the injury is suitable to be dealt with in Abingdon or whether the patient should be taken straight to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

Townlands Hospital, Henley Minor Injuries Unit

Opening Hours:  09:00 – 20:00 every day, including weekends and bank holidays.

Able to treat cuts, bumps, bruises, burns, sprains, strains, scalds, stings, allergic reactions, minor head injuries, minor road traffic accidents and possible simple fractures.

Limited X-ray service available 09:00 – 13:30 Monday to Friday.  It is advisable to phone first to check if there is availability.

Wallingford Hospital First Aid Unit

Opening Hours:  08:30 – 18:30 Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays)

Wallingford is not strictly a Minor Injuries Unit but is classified as a First Aid Unit.

Able to treat cuts, bumps, bruises, burns, sprains, strains, scalds, stings, allergic reactions, minor head injuries, minor road traffic accidents.
