Watlington Age Concern

Tucked away in Watlington are some facilities that offer valuable services to anyone who needs them.  Not everyone is aware of their existence and could be missing out on something that could really help them.

Drop In Centre

Situated behind the Tu Tu chocolate shop, just off the High Street in Watlington, is the Drop In Centre.  Plenty of signs will direct you once you are in the correct location.

Open Monday to Friday from 9.15am to 12.30pm, anyone is free to call in to have a hot drink and a snack.  No hot food can be provided unfortunately, but plenty of choice of biscuits etc.

The main room with kitchen facilities has plenty of space for people to sit and chat and enjoy each other’s company.

There is a range of facilities available including books, colouring, jigsaws and bric-a-brac.

There is also a Scrabble Club which takes place every Wednesday afternoon, 2 to 4pm

There is a treatment room available which is available for hire by other organisations.  At present, it is used for a chiropody service which is available every Wednesday morning.

Public liability insurance, if relevant, needs to be provided by any organisation hiring the facilities.

The service was started in 1990, and has had a variety of homes over the years.  The current location was intended to be temporary and fund raising is ongoing with the objective of finding an even better home.

There are always two volunteers in attendance in a supervisory role led by Secretary Doreen Hobbs.

Thursday Club

The Thursday Club is accessed through Barbara’s Door.  Soon to be renamed the Tony and Barbara’s Door in memory of Tony and Barbara Williamson who were very active in the organisation.

It takes place in the West Room of Old School Place, as the name implies, on a Thursday from 9.45am to 2.30pm.  Numerous facilities are available to entertain attendees and a fantastic 2 course lunch, cooked on the premises is served to the members.  A warm welcome is given to anyone who would like to attend just for the meal at a cost of £6.00 per head.  (This needs to be booked a week in advance please).

Both facilities offer comfort, support and company to anyone who needs it.  If you would like further information, please email [email protected], or telephone 01491612209
